21 Jun Statement from the Regional Chief on National Indigenous Peoples Day
Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, Regional Chief Kluane Adamek issued the following statement from the celebrations taking place in Kluane First Nation:
“I’m thrilled to be in Kluane territory joining the Elders and the community in marking National Indigenous Peoples Day, and celebrating being Kluane First Nation, Southern Tutchone, Tlingit and Dakławeidi.
“This National Indigenous Peoples Day we honour our Elders, our ancestors, and all those who have come before. Their leadership and incredible resilience has paved the path forward today, and for the generations yet to come.
“I am proud that Yukon First Nations continue on this path to drive community-led solutions and are creating brighter futures, on their own terms. We see hope in our children who are learning our languages, singing our songs, learning our traditions and values.
“Today and every day, I invite all Yukoners and Canadians to join your local First Nation neighbours to learn, recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures, contributions and achievements of the Indigenous people and territory you live on or close to. Building relationships on understanding and respect will support all of us moving forward and advancing reconciliation.”
