The Yukon Regional Chief leads the AFN Yukon regional office and sits on the AFN’s National Executive, which is made up of all the Regional Chiefs across the country, and the National Chief. Their responsibilities include:
Protecting and advancing the rights and interests of First peoples of Yukon Territory
Preserving, promoting, and protecting the cultures and traditions of First Nations peoples
Creating policies and resources to enhance the economic, social, and cultural wellbeing of Yukon First Nations
Working in collaboration with other organizations to support and advance the individual and collective interest of Yukon First Nations
Yukon First Nations have made the collective decision to amalgamate the AFN Yukon Regional Office with the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN), effective October 1, 2025. This direction supports the unification of the CYFN Grand Chief and the AFN Yukon Regional Chief positions and responsibilities under a single leadership model.
