Indigenous Languages Act

In the Summer of 2018, the federal government led engagement sessions across the country on the proposed Indigenous Languages Act. Yukon First Nations leadership directed AFN Yukon to support preparations for the Yukon engagement session on September 5, 2018. Part of this work included developing a discussion paper on the health of languages in the region that included key recommendations and legal considerations.

Below is a copy of the main discussion paper with findings from a regional survey on the health of Yukon First Nation languages, as well as a legal discussion paper with considerations for the legislation.
